AY40 Imagine Sails!

IMAGINE_368_sails.jpg

The relationship between Alloy Yachts and Dubois Naval Architects has been a long but happy and fruitful association and the current 44.18 metre Imagine is a culmination of many years of experience – between the Owner, designer and the yard.

The latest incarnation of Imagine is still, from a sailing point of view, a classic sailboat in a traditional Alloy/Dubois style.

The owners close affiliation with America’s Cup, Volvo and TP52 racing has meant that racing technology has been transferred and blended into this classic superyacht. A composite centreboard, an Alloy Yachts custom helm feedback system and semi-balanced composite blade rudder means performance and stability in a fast superyacht. Imagine sports a 58.5m state-of-the-art Southern Spars five spreader mast, an 18.6m hybrid Leisurefurl boom, and EC6 Hybrid rigging with a split continuous backstay. North 3DL sails and a Code Zero arrangement normally found on America’s Cup yachts, mean the team have upped performance but maintained the simplicity of the yachts handling.

For both Alloy Yachts and Dubois Naval Architects their relationship is one which has perhaps changed the face of the sailing Superyacht. With the launch of the latest Imagine and the technology within, the face of performance Superyachts is perhaps changing again.

Alloy Yachts launches SY Imagine.

Imagine_Launch.jpg

On Tuesday the 15th of June, Alloy Yachts christened the 44.2m sailing yacht Imagine.

This is the second Dubois designed Imagine Alloy Yachts has created, having built the first Imagine back in 1993. The team of Dubois Naval Architects and Alloy Yachts, working with the owner has created a high performance, superyacht with the technical sailing attributes of a much smaller racing machine. The desire to recapture the essence of the original Imagine with low, sleek lines and a large cockpit was kept but enhanced by all the advancements in the technologies Alloy has made since the first Imagine was launched. This new Imagine will be outperforming her peers on the water whilst giving her owner new levels of comfort and entertainment when living onboard.

Imagine was floated to Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour, the following day her Southern Spars carbon fibre mast was stepped. She will begin on-the-water commissioning early next week.

Alloy Yachts Underway with AY43, a 47m Motoryacht.

AY43rendering.jpg

Soon after SY Kokomo was launched from Alloy Yachts’ Bay 6, the space was back in use as the team started construction on a 47m flybridge motoryacht.

The award-winning team of Alloy Yachts, Dubois Naval Architects and Donald Starkey Design is working together again to build the spacious motoryacht. The same team created Allogante, now known as Loretta Anne, which won the 2009 ISS Award for the best 24-40m motoryacht.

“This is the third Alloy Yachts-built motoryacht our client has owned and we will again enjoy working with the owner to create a beautiful vessel which exceeds expectations” says managing director, Tony Hambrook.

AY43, is scheduled to be delivered in early 2012. The 47m yacht has four staterooms, an owners’ suite, spa pool and gymnasium.

The yacht’s homeport will be the Bahamas, hence the shallow draft of just 2.2m. The addition of zero-speed stabilisers adds to the vessel’s suitability for luxurious and comfortable anchoring. Another feature is the enclosed flybridge where the side windows can be raised and lowered to ensure the comfort of the owner and guests.

The yacht is being built to Lloyd’s classification 100 A1 SSC YACHT MONO G6 MCH (<500 gross tonnes) and LY2 and will have a cruising speed of 14.5 kts.
